About Us

The Covered Wagon Guesthouse is located in Central Texas…almost in the middle of Texas.  The build out of the Covered Wagon was in 2008.  It was designed to reflect the early settlers and pioneers who came to or through Mason County.

Designed for one to two adults OR a family – if your children would like to experience the Covered Wagon Era of sleeping under or around a Covered Wagon.  Historically – NO ONE slept in the Wagon.  The wagon was used like today’s UHauls and was filled with furniture, supplies, tools, seed, etc.

It took 5 months just to prepare the floor from a carpeted room to a faux painted surface to a flooring that “looks like dirt”.  The floor is sealed with wax and although looks like the ground under a wagon is clean and covered with rugs for your comfort.

The walls are painted to give you the impression that you are outside.

The Covered Wagon was designed by Bridget Langdale.  Two wheels were found in Gillespie County, two others in Mason, and the wagon bows were purchased at an auction in Boerne, Texas.  Researched by Bridget, she convinced her Irish born friend Eamon O’Hannalon in Houston to make the chassis to fit a queen size mattress.  Disassembled and driven back to Mason it was later reassembled inside the guest house.  The Covered Wagon opened for business in 2009.
